Adopt A Highway
Lion
Larry Lockwood is the Lion in charge of our Adopt A Hwy program. He has
worked on clean up with the late great Lion Elmo for many years. He and
his stalwart crew head out to Hwy 168 and Lodge Road every other month
(weather permitting) and spend a morning cleaning up our little section
of road.
Paper Recycling
Lion Sonne Schultz is in charge of our monthly paper recycling project. On the third Saturday of each
month, armed with gloves and trailers, the Lion volunteers gather to
collect papers. Drop off locations are at the post offices in Prather
and Auberry
from 9am-1pm. It's a lot of hard work, but provides the community with a
way to recycle their newspaper, junk mail, and paper products without
making the long trek to town. And did we mention that we take bags of
shredded paper? That's right, so do your part for the environment, by
dropping your papers off at the Lions drop off the 3rd Saturday of each
month! Eyeglasses
collection. Our
collection boxes can be found in various locations around our foothill
community. In these we collect used eyeglasses to be sent to collection
centers, refurbished and taken to countries with little or no
access to basic eyecare. It seems like such a little thing to take our
old glasses and drop them off in a cardboard box. Yet, to many in the
world these same cast off eye glasses mean the ability to see, to read, to
walk safely across a street, or see the details of a loved one's face.
Maybe not such a little thing after all. Lion Bill Rose heads up our eye
glasses and hearing aid collection effort. Used eye glasses can be
dropped off at the local schools, Sierra Oaks Senior Center, Dr.
Mulvey's office, or DJ's Dollar Daze.

We've added ink cartridges to our list of
recyclables. After noticing that many of us had cartridges lying around,
taking up space in drawers, or on a shelf waiting to be taken to an
office supply store in town, we thought, "hmmm?". Cartridges
can be dropped off (in a grocery or zip lock bag) with Jeannie each
month at the board meeting. They can also be dropped off at DJ's Dollar
Daze in Prather. As each box fills up, they are sent off for recycling.
You can also give them to a local Sierra HS Leo Club member.
Pull
tabs One
charity that always has a place in our hearts is the Ronald McDonald
House. Saving pull tabs from soda and beer cans is an easy way to
support the local Ronald McDonald House. The
Sierra HS Leo Club has a collection contest in their 4th period classes
each semester. So you can always save your pull tabs, then drop them off
at the high school indicating that they are for the Leo Club.
